Julia Skikavich is an award-winning screenwriter and journalist. Her writing has been hailed for its disability-lens approach in tackling timely social issues.

Julia is an alumnus of the RespectAbility Entertainment Lab, the Magee TV Diverse Screenwriters mentorship program and the International Screenwriters’ Association (ISA) Fast Track Fellowship. After being named an ISA TOP 25 Writer to Watch in 2019, Julia later received the year’s Emerging Screenwriter Award. She currently serves as the Writers Guild of Canada’s first Disability rep on the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) Committee and sits on the Disability Screen Office's Research Working Group.

Julia has worked on a variety of news programs, unscripted, and docuseries. She has held positions as a reporter, senior news writer, editor and associate producer for news organizations that have included CBC, Sun Media and Yahoo! Canada. She’s been published by The Globe and Mail, The Toronto Star, The Ottawa Citizen, The Winnipeg Free Press, Time Magazine and more. Her coverage has spanned major events and breaking news stories, including plane crashes, election campaigns, murder trials, 1,000-mile sled dog races, the Olympics and Sasquatch sightings.
